Mission :
Rehabilitation of the mentally ill
:
The mentally ill is isolated
from the society, thus bearing a sense of utter dejection &
unworthiness. So the very first goal of Turning Point is to make
him feel acceptable, forget trauma of seclusion & discrimination
& enjoy the pleasure of preoccupation and engagement. They
initially rehabilitate the patients through meticulous
counseling so they regain confidence enough to intermingle in
society. Through interpersonal guidelines, as the patient
develops the expectations of normal life, he is restored to the
mainstream of life so to earn & become self dependent &
confident. Emphasizing on this, the rehabilitation procedure is
two-fold:

rehabilitation programs are tested & methodically designed
to improve his communication, attention, concentration,
reaction time, attitudes & behavioral practices for his
efficiency in the society.

Economic
Rehabilitation:
In The Economic Rehabilitation Schedule, the patient is
subjected to Model Job-Interviews, Competitive Knowledge,
and Computer Certificate Courses from “Computer Point”, so
that he is restored back to the mainstream of life with
self-supported earning. (Turning Point themselves impart
Computer Training). People with special abilities, like Art
or Writing, Music or Dance are encouraged to jobs involving
these traits. Handicrafts Training are given regularly with
individual attention to the ability of the beneficiaries.
They counsel them continually to increase their motivation
for work. Turning Point holds regular Picnics, Cultural
Events, Parties, Exhibitions, Television & Radio Programs,
and long-distance Tours from Turning Point. They also hold
workshops far & wide for the promotion of Positive Mental
Health & eradication of the concept of “madness”, which
still remains a stigma associated with Mental Health all
over the World.
Awareness:
Ignorance of the commonness and liability of mental illness
effects in discrimination of a mentally ill person in job
aspects, marriage, acceptance of the person ‘s human
qualities, rejection in trust as a human being. So Turning
Point takes special measure to provide extensive awareness
how natural mental illness is, its preventive methods and
care giving techniques. This covers elaborate awareness
campaigns and seminars in professional and non-professional
areas as well as academic institutions, clubs, philanthropic
organizations, factories, government enterprises and
reaching out far and wide to remotest of villages.
Eradication of Stigma attached to Mental Health:
The stigma of ‘mad’ attached to mental problems is still
a persisting nomenclature. It is not only through
Turning Point’s serious awareness programs and
rehabilitation, but exposing the talents of these
beneficiaries through press and media, cultural
programs, sports and by helping them earn readily
through various means also help remove stigma to a
promising extent and acquire abilities of effective
communication, assertiveness and become confident.
Unlike most places, in Turning Point a discriminated
mentally ill individual is converted to a confident
worker who now perceives his situation as a ‘likely
health problem’. As a matter of fact, Turning Point’s
promising attitude has revived a chronic mental patient
suffering for thirteen years and after rehabilitation he
is serving as the Assistant Secretary of the
organization.
General Treatment Is Not The Ultimate:
Bearing all the outcomes of rehabilitation, awareness &
motivation, Ishita Sanyal still has one singular &
unique idea to the solutions of stigma, seclusion &
discrimination. She aims at formation of a Free Society
establishing mutual business-like agreements with
various enterprises / multinationals who in turn would
financially profit from their investments by
incorporating Turning Point beneficiaries yield money
for the investors themselves, the mentally challenged
servicemen & Turning Point as well. As joblessness is a
crucial crisis in mental discrimination, Ishita believes
that if contributors / investors support her idea,
production & money can be yielded from the mentally
challenged & terms of profit could be shared between the
contributors, workers & Turning Point. Here:
1. Contributors yield their share
2. Patients are occupied in practical life & paid with
practical experience & responsibilities
3. Turning Point obtains resource
4. Shortcomings of handicap & joblessness due to
discrimination find a solution
