ABOUT

THE Turning Point

Welcome to The Turning Point, a Trust, dedicated to mental rehabilitation and combating the stigma surrounding mental health. Established in 1998 by the philosophy and determination of Clinical Psychologist Ishita Sanyal, our organization aims to address the complexities and challenges faced by individuals and families when dealing with mental illness in India.

We understand that when mental illness strikes, it creates immense difficulties for both individuals and their families, often compounded by the lack of sufficient resources. Many parents initially struggle to comprehend their child’s mental health condition due to a lack of awareness and acceptance in society. This leads to intense frustration, grievances, and anxiety about their child’s well-being, cost of living, and future, placing a significant burden on caregivers.

For individuals facing mental health issues, the experience is often characterized by successive failures and social stigma, resulting in seclusion.

Society, unaware of the prevalence and impact of mental illness, struggles to provide hospitable opportunities for recovery or the unleashing of creative solutions to the challenges faced by both individuals and their families. Existing NGOs have achieved limited outcomes in this regard.

To address these issues, The Turning Point established a Day Care cum rehabilitation centre, providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals to revive their lives from the misery of seclusion, joblessness, and discrimination. We believe in empowering intellectually capable individuals affected by mental illness, enabling them to utilize their skills and regain their careers. Our organization strives to change societal perceptions, foster acceptance, and provide vocational scope for those whose potential has been overshadowed by prolonged illness.

Supported by the endorsement of Nobel Laureate Professor Amartya Sen, who proudly serves as our patron, The Turning Point is committed to championing the rights and well-being of individuals facing mental health challenges. We believe in the compassionate potential of every individual considering them as equal partners of society, irrespective of their mental health status. Join us as we work towards a society free from stigma, providing hope, support & a platform to showcase their hidden talents and creating a worldwide community for them.
